Dental veneers, also referred to as laminates are essentially very thin porcelain or ceramic shells that are bonded to the surface of crooked or discolored teeth to make them appear natural and blend in perfectly with the remaining teeth. The veneers can be customized for teeth of any desired color, shape or size.
They are typically used to reshape broken or irregular teeth, but they are also an alternative solution for discolored teeth that don’t respond to traditional teeth whitening treatments. Several Hollywood stars have opted for veneers and laminates to get brighter and more symmetrical teeth, but the treatment is accessible and affordable for the common man too.

What’s the Procedure to Get a Dental Veneer or Laminate?
The entire procedure to get a dental veneer done for one or more of teeth usually requires fewer trips to your dentist. The first visit is the initial consultation and the remaining two would be to create and apply the veneers.
Here’s a quick run-down of the process:
1. Diagnosis and Treatment Plan
The dentist examines your teeth and discusses the treatment plan with you. You might also have to take X-rays and provide impressions of your teeth.
2. Preparation
This step is critical as the dentist prepares your tooth for the veneer. You will be administered a local anesthetic and about 0.5mm of enamel from your tooth’s surface will be removed. The dentist then takes an impression of your tooth and sends it to a laboratory where the veneer is custom built.
3. Bonding
Once the veneer is ready (it usually takes about 4-5 days), it is bonded to your tooth using a special cement and adjusted for shape and colour.
